Carol Forsloff - The world is better when it is playing for change. Want to know how that can happen? Sometimes all it takes is listening to what simple people can do to make good news in the middle of bad times anywhere.
Playing for Change takes the simple street musician and shows how that simplicity can be beautiful. The organization brings out the finest in these folks, the music that can tell the story of what people share by way of feelings, status and issues.
Just two weeks ago Playing for Change announced a month of classes at the Bizung School of Music and Dance where children in Ghana will have a month of singing and dancing and playing native African instruments.
It is the foundation created by Playing for Change, that came from filming street musicians and that developed into a major outreach program, that allows these activities for children all over the world.
The foundation provides a way for children to escape from the struggles of their daily lives.
Playing for Change came about after a film made about street musicians and that has now reached the hearts of millions of people.
More than a news story told in words and pictures that pass over television screens, music can tell that story and bring emotions up that help drive understanding deep inside, where other media messages cannot reach.
Making a difference in human rights, through music, is Playing for Change, with spots on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube where people can go and enjoy.
But here within this story, there is a recognition as well, that the message about Playing for Change belongs in every form of media, including newspapers.
