Day of Rage protest begins ‘American Spring’

Samantha Torrence - Today is the birthday of our American Constitution, and on this day a group of 50,000 people went to New York City to protest the political power of Wall Street. The U.S. Day of Rage, inspired by the Day of Rage during Arab Spring, was designed as a peaceful protest also in the fashion of our Middle Eastern cousins.  Today is said to be just the beginning of this protest which is just one piece of the puzzle to a larger movement.

Global Revolution, which began on Sep 17, will be spreading to Spain, Greece, Belgium, France, Iceland, and beyond. The cause supported by people of all political backgrounds is being aided by the hacktivist group Anonymous. The U.S. Day of Rage (USDoR) sported protesters in the latest protest fashion du jour, the Guy Fawkes mask made popular by the movie ‘V for Vendetta.’

The USDoR website put up instructions and tips for protestors joining in New York as well as initial strategy to avoid violence and arrests. That strategy has continued through communications via twitter using the hash tags #USDoR # Takewallstreet  #Sep17 and #Occupywallstreet. Communications and videos from the Global Revolution website document movements of both protestors and police in NY. While there is a macrocosm to consider the microcosm is focused on the unprecedented force exhibited by the NYPD which USDoR claims is now a trained paramilitary group and extension of the CIA.

USDoR protestors have permits to remain at Zuccotti Park until 10pm EST. After being dispersed they plan to sleep on the sidewalks of NY in sleeping bags.

The initial intention of protesting the political corruption of America through Wall Street is a theme embraced by many different political spectrums, notably that of the Tea Party. However, since the Tea Party take-over by the Republicans the movement now seems to battle against USDoR and the Global nonviolent Revolution that is being championed by young adults in the East and the West. The same message of accountability is echoed in this new group and for the most part the message is being ignored or manipulated by the Main Stream Media as it was before.  In this latest protest USDoR has adopted the theme 1 Person, 1 Vote, 1 Dollar for political funding available to campaigning.

10pm comes soon and already reports of police with pepper spray and riot gear are coming through on twitter as well as reports of police confiscating bicycles that were chained up as part of the protest. USDoR, Anonymous, and others are urging for all protesters to remain peaceful and to follow the laws.
