Overeating: How to tackle it effectively

Angela Paul — We all know that proper diet and regular exercise is the perfect formula for a healthy lifestyle. In spite of this fact, we calamarioften struggle to maintain a good body figure. Have you ever wondered why? Well, if you observe carefully, it is our lack of awareness about basic health facts.

Usually we all have the habit of jumping to a diet plan the moment we read about it. A recent research has shown that nearly half of obese people have tried some diet or the other. In fact, presently every two out of three people are on a diet.

It is important for us to understand that not every diet plan works for all. In addition, diets are always a temporary solution that does not tackle the root cause of excessive weight.

Reasons to overeat

To understand the formula of weight loss, let us first understand why we overeat.

Our body mechanism is designed in such a way that it tells us when we are hungry and when our stomach is full. Overeating starts to occur when we ignore the signs that our body gives us. In spite of our stomach being full, we eat more. Sometimes we eat so fast that we fail to realize the body signals. Additionally, when we are bored and depressed, we try to engage ourselves by overeating. Here, we try to divert our mind by indulging into excessive eating.

Often the reason for overeating is connected with any emotional event that has happened in the past. Somewhere, this event is present in our sub-conscious mind that compels us to eat. In such a case, we eat to satisfy our mind and not for our nutrition. The best way to overcome this problem is to change our mind’s perception toward food.

Possible signs of overeating

  • Eating too fast without tasting the flavors

  • Eating during depression and loneliness

  • Eating during idleness

  • Eating to divert mind from tension

  • Eating as a sign of protecting oneself

  • Eating to fulfill any emotional need

Three easy ways to lose weight

1. Walking: A 10-minute walk twice a day is equal to a 30-minute workout. You can make walking your daily habit by some simple tricks. Try these.

  • Walk in the office premises during the breaks;

  • Get down from the bus a few stops before;

  • Take the staircase and not the elevator ;

  • Participate in charity walks;

  • Park your car a little away from your house.

2. Less calorie food: Switch over to lower calorie versions of your favorite dishes. For instance, if you love pizzas, order a pizza with less cheese. Similarly go for a low-fat ice cream with your favorite toppings.

You can also add more healthy ingredients to your favorite dishes. For instance, you can add red bell peppers to your favorite pie.

For drinks, choose diet soft drinks and light beer. Try to include seltzer to your wine.

3. Hypnotherapy: Hypnotherapy will enable you to identify the emotional incidents that influenced your attitude toward food. Once those emotional problems are identified, you can deal with them effectively. Hypnotherapy will change your attitude toward food. You will develop new eating habits and will gain control over how much you eat.

The benefits of hypnotherapy can be summarized in the following way:

  • Enables the person to think positively about weight;

  • Helps the person to develop a new image of him/her;

  • Makes the person calmer and relaxed.

Hypnotherapists for weight loss are quite popular. You can research about good hypnotherapy centers in your neighborhood and avail the benefits accordingly.
