Activists dressed as bees |
In an email notification, Avaaz congratulated its members and supporters on the news of EU banning pesticides linked to killing of bees. As RFI reported, a majority of the EU member states, including France, supported the ban while some, including Britain and Hungary, opposed it.
The ban, as the European Commission stated, will take effect from December this year. But those struggling for it are cheerful.
“It was a close vote, but thanks to a massive mobilization by Avaaz members, beekeepers, and others, we won!” Vanessa Amaral-Rogers from the specialist conservation organization Buglife was quoted in the message. Greenpeace's Marco Contiero called this win the result of “overwhelming scientific, political and public support”.
Avaaz reminds its members that this is not the final victory yet as the EU ban is only in place for 2 years pending further review. However, it’s a mark of the success commitment and passion about this cause has brought in for those who respect life in its various forms and want to protect it from relentless destruction by corporate forces.
