Kate Simmons — Many people don’t even notice how much water they use every morning in their bathrooms. Some of them don’t know how to conserve water and have no idea how much water gets wasted. These people need to adjust their wasteful behavior a little bit in order to become eco-friendly.
Some countries suffer from scarce water supplies while others have not reached that point yet. Even if you take water for granted, it does not mean you should waste it all the time. Saving water is easier than you think. Several simple changes would make a difference. Take a look at a list of water-saving tips and use some of them at home:
Switch off your tap
Switch off the tap every morning when you brush your teeth. Use water only when you need it. Keep in mind that a running tap would waste up to 7 liters of water every minute. If you want to wash your face, fill in the sink instead of using the running tap water.
You can turn off your tap when you soap your hands. This way you would save up to 3 liters of water every time you wash your hands. Rinse your hands, turn off the tap, apply some liquid soap on your palms, turn the water back on, and wash the soap off.
Take showers
Don’t waste water on filling up a bathtub, take showers instead. This way you will save more water. You can still take a bath once in a while; just don’t do it every day.
Single pressure shower heads use less water than regular ones. It uses 80% less water than the regular shower head. You will not only save water, but save your money on the water bill.
Some people soap up before they take a shower. You can follow their example and don’t leave the shower head on for a few minutes. You won’t get cold, but would save several liters of water. Try taking shorter showers. There is no need to spend 20 minutes showering. You would only pay less for your next water bill.
Check for water leaks
Fixing a leaking tap does not take a lot of time, but it would save a lot of water. Check all the taps and pipes in your house to identify the problem. You can either fix it on your own or ask your plumber to do it for you.
Half-flush toilets
These save a substantial amount of water.
Shaving
Shaving is another reason why a lot of water gets wasted. You mainly need water to clean the razor. As an alternative you can place a bowl of warm water next to your sink and shake your razor full of soap and hair in it. This way you will easily clean the blade and stay eco-friendly.
Being eco-friendly means being aware of the environmental problems around you. Try reducing the harm by conserving your daily water usage. Changing your habits would not require a lot of effort, but would make a difference to the world.
