Moderate Muslims speak out against violent Paris attacks

Islamic symbol for Allah, name of God in Arabic
In the interest of providing perspective and the opportunity for Muslims to speak about their concerns in a calm and kindly manner relative to the recent publishing of cartoons in the French magazine Charlie and the terrorist attacks that initially ensued, this magazine is publishing today a press release from the BC website in its entirety.

The BC organization is the largest one representing the Muslim community of Canada:

The ‘Paris attacks’ have left in their wake a trail of blood, confusion and worldwide outrage, not to mention greater friction between Muslims and their non-Muslim neighbors. While viewed by the perpetrators as “avengement”, the murders, in reality, only resulted in increased, widespread disrespect of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him), Islamic symbols, and Muslims in general. The perpetrators proved their utter disregard for human life, as well as the Muslims’ collective image. Thus, we condemn the crimes that have taken a dozen lives and caused widespread dismay and frustration.

We also feel that harmonious coexistence –the cornerstone of peace and prosperity in any setting- rests largely on mutual respect of beliefs, ethnicities and cultures. When such respect is exchanged for insult and mockery –under any pretext- of things people hold dearest, an unfriendly environment results.
