"We are thrilled that Sony is coming out with this stellar new edition of the soundtrack in time for the anniversary," says Ted Chapin,
President of Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company.  "It is one
of the best soundtracks of all time and this edition will appeal to the
new fan and serious collector alike."  Chapin refers to The Sound of
Music.

Rodgers
& Hammerstein's score for The Sound of Music is one of the most
cherished collections of songs of all time.   Based on their Broadway
musical, with a libretto by Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse, the film version was directed by Robert Wise and brought the universal, and also true, story of the von Trapp family to life on the screen.

The
soundtrack is a classic in its own right, having spent its first four
years on Billboard's Top Albums chart, and sold over 10 million units to
date. With the radiant Julie Andrews
leading the way, the vocal and orchestral performances include iconic
versions of such standards as the title song, "Sixteen Going on
Seventeen," "Do-Re-Mi," "Edelweiss," "So Long, Farewell," "Climb Ev'ry
Mountain," and of course, "My Favorite Things."

In
the month prior to the release of the soundtrack and Blu-ray, The Sound
of Music will be celebrated in movie theaters across America. NCM
Fathom, Rodgers & Hammerstein and Twentieth Century Fox Home
Entertainment  present The Sound of Music Sing-Along Event: a 45
Anniversary Celebration on October 19 and October 26 in over 500 movie
theaters in over 150 cities. The Sound of Music Sing-Along_Event: A 45th Anniversary Celebration on October 19 and October 26 in over 500 select movie theaters in over 150 cities.

One week after release, on November 8 in New York City, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation will honor Academy Award Winner and International Star, Dame Julie Andrews.
Along with tributes to other honorees, the program for the evening
will include a special tribute to the 45th Anniversary of Rodgers &
Hammerstein's The Sound of Music.  For more information please visit .

The
Sound of Music, when it was made, appealed to audiences across the
spectrum of age, race and personal tastes because of its universal
message about family, devotion, and courage in the face of great
adversity, as well as loyalty to one's country in spite of oppression.
It was symbolized by the Trapp family, whose singing as shown in the
film became enjoyed by live audiences around the world and brought the
world figuratively to its feet in song.

The
Sound of Music returns this year at a time when the world again needs
music in an oppositional climate that exists among racial, cultural and
political factions and to watch the happily ever after songs it
represents.
