by Carol Forsloff - New research tells us we must emphasize healthy living to avoid a global aging crisis, and one of the most healthy activities is regular sex, according to ongoing scientific research. Along with the benefits of having sex, scientists also maintain safe sex is also important.
While sex discussion is often used to titillate or bring attention, in this case the discussion from science is serious; because scientists say in any reasonable form, sex as a human activity promotes good health. As such it is a reasonable topic for inclusion in discussion of longevity and health.
Every year science comes up with a new study on the best reasons for sex. WebMd devotes a section to this list.
Sex reduces stress, in that it lowers blood pressure and overall stress reduction. For women even a hug can be helpful. Sex has been found to boost immunity, especially if the frequency is at least once or twice a week, according to a British study. It helps in weight loss because it burns calories at the rate of 85 calories or more per thirty minutes. It has been found to improve self concept and self esteem. Sex has also been found to reduce pain and prostrate cancer risk. A very important protection for the heart is sex twice weekly, something that has been reiterated in several studies.
It turns out that the “use it or lose it” phenomenon is particularly true for guys over 50. This time it’s losing more than the “it;” since sexual activity over 50 has been shown to reduce the chances of prostate cancer. Health practitioners advise strive for ten times per month. That would be 2.5 times/week. But are those statistics for younger men? It turns out the studies have all been on folks over 50, just as Kurzweil's recent discussion has been for the target group for prevention of health problems.
So if you are really too tired, keep in mind WebMd's recommendation and Kurzweil's directive about preventing age-related illnesses, by boosting your immune system and maintaining a healthy weight by having sex.
