Long Island fans challenge FOX to put J. Lo on 'American Idol'

 NEW
YORK - Carol Forsloff - While the world news documents New Orleans
recovery and Pakistan's floods, Long Island fans are riveted on their
big news, to put Jennifer Lopez on "American Idol."

Simon Cowell is gone, as is Paula Abdul and Kara DioGuardi, so the show is looking for a high-profile replacement.

FOX executives have to judges'
seats to fill for the hit reality show.  Rumors have it that Maria Carey
or Shania Twain are the front-runners, but  Jennifer Lopez, or J.Lo as she is affectionately known, has  fans who want their pick.

The
campaign is being headed up by a Long Island doctor and resident, Lloyd
Landsman MD.  He created an online petition looking for hundreds of
thousands of signatures that he intends to send to FOX executives.  He
is also planning a website to document the good things about J. Lo as
ammunition for FOX to make her their pick for "American Idol."

Dr.
Landsman is himself a neighbor of J. Lo's.  J.Lo and her husband Marc
Anthony own a North Shore estate. He believes she is the best candidate
for the job, because she proved competency as a fill-in judge on two
"American Idol" episodes in 2007.

The
claim is J.Lo would be a wonderful representative for the Long Island
community where the Bronx-born entertainer is known in New York as
"Jenny from the Block" or "Jenny from Northern Boulevard."

J.
Lo is a top hit entertainer, described as "A global phenomenon who has
sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, J. Lo dominates the music,
film, TV and fashion industries and has parlayed her fame into multiple
endorsement deals. Her two-decade-spanning career gives her the
experience necessary to mentor young artists on "Idol"; her charisma and
on-screen presence make her perfect for the TV gig"

And
is she a good substitute for Simon Crowell?  That will be FOX decision
while the rest of the fans wonder who might be the pick as a bit of side
news from the rumblings of the world's entertainment.
