Hispanics targeted by fraudsters in mortgage and consumer scams

GHN News Staff - Hispanics can often fall victim to scams due to cultural and language differences, and a recent scam targeting this group involving computer sales has brought a lawsuit against the perpetrators in California.

A class action lawsuiclaims that Hispanics are being sold computers by door-to-door salesmen for prices many times what the computers are worth.  In a recent action against American General Finance, Hispanic Educational Inc. and Logic's Consulting, plaintiffs contend Hispanics are being sold computer items in ways that make the purchasers pay more and have difficulty getting out of open-ended contracts.

Earlier this year Hispanics were said to be the targeted group in mortgage rescue fraud in the State of Delaware.  Master Builders for Christ and Vision Builders Christian Center, along with three of its principals, were charged with 21 counts of running the largest morgage rescue fraud in the state's history.  The indictments included Jamaar Manlove, Larry Manlove, and Rhonda Manlove, who  ran a criminal enterprise involving theft, money laundering, and forgery involving homeowners who faced imminent foreclosure.  Many of these were Hispanic individuals.
