CN - GHN News Editor - With all of the
attention directed towards Arizona's immigration law, the world
community is looking at it, one of the first times in history that the
United Nations has examined internal affairs within a country like the
United States in a high profile manner.
The first Universal
Periodic Review is taking up Arizona's harsh immigration law through
its Human Rights Council. The results are expected to be in on Friday.
The American Civil
Liberties Union has protested Arizona's immigration law and submitted a
19-page report to the United Nations in which it detailed some of the
issues involved.
Both the ACLU and
the UN are examining the law with respect to concerns that U.S.
policies, as enumerated by Arizona's immigration law, threaten human
rights.
