Red Hat Ladies meeting in Portland, Oregon |
On a warm, sunny day a restaurant in Goose Hollow in Portland, Oregon brought out the best of moments, with some of them attracting visitors/residents with their bright, red hats while their admirers sat around.
And who are these folks in the hats, trimmed sometimes with feathers, or bows or flowers, or color accents and smiling at passersby while giggling too?
The Red Hat Society women say the goal of their organization is to have fun. Many of these women are "mature, " i.e. flecks of gray hair or full-headed silver, and the eyes flash as one of them said, "We aren't organized to do volunteer work, or take up collections or have some project. Our goal is to have fun together."
The fun outing this month was the lunch, scheduled by one of the members of the group each month. The International Red Hat Society has chapters all over the world, all with the mission of fun. The organization declares the women meet for tea every month, but it was more than tea on the porch that afternoon, with the smiles and sandwiches to help round out the fun.
The women laughed as their pictures were taken, and a small crowd of individuals walked by smiling and took pictures as well. For what is more beautiful than red on a warm summer day, especially when it captures the essence of woman.
