AUSTIN, TEXAS - Carol Forsloff - Men who are looking for short-term companionship are more interested in a woman's body, just like the Bellamy Brothers told us in singing, "if I said you had a beautiful body" but the focus is on the a woman's pretty face later.

"If
I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me," research
says is true in early picks for mates.
What do men want in a mate: a good
body or a pretty face? Scientists have answered the question, with
interesting results.
It turns out that in the short term guys
are looking for women with good bodies. But in the long-term, it's the
face that matters.
The body gives clues about fertility,
scientists say; something men are naturally drawn to, especially when they are
young. The face shows wisdom, understanding, and other cues, according to
researchers from the University of Texas at Austin.
"Men's priorities shift depending on
what they want in a mate, with facial features taking on more importance when a
long-term relationship is the goal," says Jaimie Colfer, a graduate
student who co-authored the research on mate selection with two other folks,
Carin Periloux and Professor David Buss.
"Mating is central to the engine of
natural selection. This research helps clarify people's preference,"these
researchers tell us.
As for women, there is no particular
difference in how they perceive face or body in their mate selection.
375 college students were used in the
research to establish the present results.
