Would African Americans in significant numbers support Tea Partycandidates?

They maintain this is evidence the Tea Party is not racist.

"Questions of racism within the Tea Party have been raised for months now," said Vik Rubenfeld,
PJTV's Polling Director.  "Our survey found that more than one-in-three
African Americans support the movement.  Moreover, the data revealed
that 32 percent are also likely to vote for a congressional candidate
whom the Tea Party supports."

"PJTV's
Tea Party poll shows that, for many black voters, race no longer serves
as a rationale for supporting policies that undermine their economic
interests," said Joe Hicks, PJTV's host of the Minority Report
and a former Executive Director for the Southern Christian Leadership
Conference.  "Democrats and leftists have attempted to define the Tea
Party movement as a collection of angry white bigots.  However, the PJTV
poll of black voters shows the wheels on the race card bus are
beginning to fall off."

These are the poll highlights:

  • 35
percent of likely voters who are African American support the Tea Party
movement and 17 percent support the movement strongly.

  • 38
percent of African American respondents who support the Tea Party
endorse the movement privately.  34 percent publicly support the Tea
    Party.

  • 32 percent of African American respondents are more
likely to vote for a congressional candidate who is supported by the Tea
Party, including 14 percent who are very likely.

PJTV
presents a conservative point of view in its overview of news issues,
as article titles and theses indicate.  The presentation of these
results are on its website.   All of the news
stories are negative with respect to President Obama, members of his
candidate, and all others associated with his Presidency.  Nevertheless,
the organization maintains there is a substantial interest of black
voters in the Tea Party.

But
should we believe this poll?    Would African Americans support the Tea Party and its leadership evidenced by Sarah Palin?  According to research analyzes of polls,
the conclusion is many are biased and only those where an average can be
determined from several similar polls can be approximately reliable.
The recommendation is that one look at polls from different sources and
then make an estimate based upon an average of them.

No other poll like the website supporting the Tea Party has been announced with similar results on the Internet radar screen.

The
Christian Science Monitor reported
in February 2010 that the Tea Party
should not be confused with Independents, that most are social
conservatives and a heavy majority are Republican.
African Americans support more liberal social policies in virtually
every election of candidates.

The Root, a
magazine that provides commentary on a variety of issues impacting
African Americans and America in general, relates race to be a
significant factor in much of the Tea Party activities.  The thesis is
race still matters in politics but less so today than in years past.
The magazine points out that African Americans do support white
candidates depending on their political positions on various topics.  It
is also encouraged.

So do African Americans in significant
numbers support Tea Party candidates and their aims?  The Root observes
more and more African Americans are involved in the Republican Party and
supporting conservative positions.  They also are withdrawing from
support of black candidates just because they are black.  But the
support of Tea Party positions is not indicated, given the fact that
African Americans continue for the most part to support President Obama
and the aims of his Presidency in numbers that hover at 90%.
