Editor - With all eyes on Arizona, it turns out that Illinois has more illegal immigrants.  So what is the differences in these states with regard to immigration?

Illinois illegals total 432,000 while Arizona's group is about 283,000.  Native Mexicans comprise 90 percent of Arizona’s undocumented population, but in Illinois the numbers are more diverse.  This is how the numbers break out, according to recent reports: Mexicans are only 40.4 percent of the total. Asians are 24.2 percent, Europeans are 24.2 percent and other ethnic groups,at 11.2 percent, make up the rest.

With 100,000 or more of Chicago’s illegals originally from Europe, experts say the issue of illegal immigration may be handled differently in Illinois than in Arizona.

The racial overtones may not be the main issue, for example.  Furthermore the politicians don't play the games on immigration.  In fact it is found that unlike Arizona where both Republicans and Democrats, although mostly the former, rage against immigration in Illinois Republicans, including Senate nominee Mark Kirk and candidate for governor Bill Brady, rarely even mention immigration. Both were reported to have issued bland statements when FOX Chicago News asked for their positions.

Their Democratic opponents, Alexi Giannoulias and Pat Quinn, by contrast, both expressed angry opposition to Arizona’s recently-enacted law.

Illinois has enacted no special legislation and follows federal enforcement statutes on matters of illegal immigration.
